N,N-Dimethyglycine is an important amino acid that can demonstrate a wide variety of health-building effects in companion animals. VetriScience® research has shown that this versatile nutrient can improve physical and mental performance, reduce the stress response, and improve cellular pathways by providing key building blocks, such as methyl groups and other metabolic intermediates found in the methylation cycle. DMG can support cardiovascular health, liver function, detoxification, neurological health and brain activity. DMG can enhance both the humoral and cellular immune response, which results in greater resistance to bacteria, viral, and other harmful pathogens.
A number of patents have been issued to FoodScience® Corporation, the parent company of VetriScience® Laboratories, for the use of DMG, including US Patent #7,229646B2 entitled, "Methods and Compositions for Modulating the Immune Response and for the Treatment of Inflammatory Disease." The patent describes the combination of DMG with Perna to support those with autoimmune conditions. Our research was largely focused on a genetic line of mice that mimicked human lupus erythematosus.
The combination was effective in reducing specific markers for the condition including anti-nuclear antibodies and inflammatory cytokines, and in suppressing the development of glomerulonephritis and lymphadenopathy in the mice. In several cases, individuals with the condition of lupus have found significant improvement in their health by using this combination.
N,N-Dimethylglycine can demonstrate antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, reduce lactic acid buildup, support oxygenation of tissues, and provide methylation for the synthesis for many important molecules in the body including SAMe, glutathione, nucleic acids, hormones, antibodies, and neurotransmitters. Because of its wide benefits to support health and well being, DMG has been called a metabolic enhancer.
